Privacy Policy
Effective 3 November 2026
Talkwing is a Mac app that transcribes your calls and suggests what to say. This page explains exactly what it does with your data.
What leaves your Mac, and where it goes
| Data | Sent to | When | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| Audio from your microphone (you) and from your Mac's sound output (the other people on the call) | Google Gemini API | Only while Talkwing is listening | Live transcription |
| The recent transcript, a screenshot of your screen (unless "Attach screenshot" is off), your typed question, and the "About me" notes and instructions from Settings | OpenRouter, which passes the request to the AI model provider you choose (for example Anthropic, OpenAI or Google) | Each time you ask for a suggestion, or when Talkwing answers a question automatically | Writing the suggestion |
Talkwing uses your own API keys, so these requests are between you and each service, under that service's terms and privacy policy:
- Google Gemini API: terms and privacy policy. Google's terms describe when it may use API data to improve its products; on some free tiers it may.
- OpenRouter: privacy policy and terms. Each model provider has its own data retention rules, which OpenRouter lists for each model.
Talkwing also downloads the public list of OpenRouter models so you can pick one. That request contains no personal data.
Your permission
- Before anything is sent for the first time, Talkwing asks whether it may share call audio, transcripts and screenshots with these services. Nothing is sent if you choose Don't Allow.
- You can withdraw permission at any time in Settings → Privacy. Transcription stops immediately.
- Talkwing only listens after you start it (⌘⇧\ or Start). While it's listening, the menu bar icon becomes a red recording dot, and macOS shows its own microphone and screen recording indicators.
Other people on your calls
Talkwing transcribes everyone it can hear, not only you. Tell the people on your calls that you're using a transcription assistant. In many places (including several US states and much of the EU) the law requires their consent before a conversation is recorded or transcribed. You are responsible for getting it.
What stays on your Mac
- Settings and API keys are stored in the app's private sandbox folder on your Mac, readable only by your user account.
- Session transcripts and answers are saved as text files in the same folder, if "Save transcripts and answers on this Mac" is on (Settings → Privacy). Turn it off to keep nothing, or use "Delete saved sessions" to remove them.
- Audio is never saved. Screenshots are only kept in memory long enough to send them.
Deleting the app removes all of this data along with it.
What Talkwing does not do
- No tracking, advertising or analytics, and no data sold or shared with anyone else.
- No account or sign-in, and no data sent to the developer.
Children
Talkwing is not directed at children under 13 and is not meant for use by them.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new effective date. Significant changes will also be noted in the app's release notes.
