Help with setting up and using Talkwing. Can't find an answer? Email support@talkwing.app.

Getting started

  1. Get two API keys. Talkwing uses your own accounts, billed by those services:
  2. Open Settings from the menu bar icon (✨) and paste both keys.
  3. Grant permissions when macOS asks: Microphone, and Screen & System Audio Recording. Settings → Permissions shows their status. Quit and reopen Talkwing after granting Screen Recording.
  4. Start listening with ⌘⇧\. The first time, Talkwing asks permission to send call data to Google Gemini and OpenRouter.
  5. Ask for a suggestion with ⌘↵ at any point, or leave Auto mode on to get one whenever someone asks you a question.

Keyboard shortcuts

KeysAction
⌘↵Suggest an answer now
⌘\Show or hide the panel
⌘⇧\Start or stop listening
⌘RNew session
⌘ + arrowsMove the panel
⌘⇧↑ / ⌘⇧↓Scroll the answer
⌥⌘ASwitch between Auto and shortcut-only answers
⌥⌘[ / ⌥⌘]Previous / next answer
⌥⌘TLet clicks pass through the panel

Only ⌘↵, ⌘\ and ⌘⇧\ work everywhere. The others work while the panel is showing, so hiding it gives those keys back to your other apps.

Common questions

The other side of the call isn't transcribed

Grant Screen & System Audio Recording in System Settings → Privacy & Security, then quit and reopen Talkwing. Check that "Transcribe system audio (Them)" is on in Settings → Audio.

My side isn't transcribed

Grant Microphone access, and pick the right microphone in Settings → Audio. With a laptop closed, the built-in microphone is muted; Talkwing switches to an external one if you have one.

Suggestions are slow

In Settings → Models, set Reasoning effort to Minimal and pick a fast model. Some models offer Fast lanes at a higher price. A fallback model answers if the main one hasn't started replying within a few seconds.

Which models can I use?

Any OpenRouter model that accepts images, from Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, xAI and others. Settings → Models lists them by provider with prices.

Is the panel visible when I share my screen?

Talkwing asks macOS to leave its panel out of screen sharing and recordings, like presenter notes, so your own notes aren't broadcast. Most meeting apps respect this. Check with a test call in your meeting app before relying on it.

Where are my transcripts?

Menu bar icon → Open Saved Sessions. You can turn saving off, or delete them all, in Settings → Privacy.

Do I need to tell the other people on the call?

Yes. Let them know you're using a transcription assistant. In many places the law requires their consent. See the privacy policy.
